Make Pastafarianism a legally recognized religion in the U.S.

The Issue

I am trying to get pastafarianism legally recognized in the U.S. Help me worship our spaghetti overlords.

The religion known as Pastafarianism or as you would know The Church of the Flying Spaghetti Monster should become a recognized religion in The U.S. The religion is currently legally recognized as a religion in the Netherlands and in New Zealand. Pastafarian representatives are authorized to officiate weddings. However, in the United States, a federal judge has ruled that the "Church of the Flying Spaghetti Monster" is not a real religion. This needs to change, starting with this petition.

The Church of the Flying Spaghetti Monster began in 2005, when Bobby Henderson, sent a letter to the Kansas Board of Education, which was debating the inclusion of intelligent design theories in high school classes on evolution. The letter, which parodied the reasoning used to argue a scientific basis for intelligent design, stated that teaching about intelligent design must also include the alternative theory that the universe was created by a Flying Spaghetti Monster. Henderson received no response and he posted his letter on the Internet where it attracted a great deal of attention. Articles on the viral sensation were published in numerous newspapers, and fan sites began to appear.

The Flying Spaghetti Monster is portrayed as a tangle of spaghetti with many “Noodly Appendages”, flanked by two large meatballs, and with a pair of googly eyes upon stalks. This portrayal is of course a guess, as the FSM is understandably invisible to all current known forms of scientific detection.

“It’s not a joke. Elements of our religion are sometimes described as “satire” and there are many members who do not literally believe in our religion, but this isn’t unusual in religion. A lot of Christians don’t believe the Bible is literally true – but that doesn’t mean they aren’t True Christians.” Bobby Henderson.

Although “the only belief allowed in the Church of the Flying Spaghetti Monster is the rejection of belief” some general principles are held by Pastafarians, such as that the universe was created by the FSM while very drunk, the effects of which can be seen in the resulting imperfections and contradictions in the universe and on Earth.

The FSM is neither male nor female, but completely gender less. as the idea of a Monotheistic deity needing a gender or genitals is pretty silly when you really think about it. The gender less term Pastafarians refer to FSM as is ‘Quob’ – as in – ‘May you be Touched by Quob’s Noodly Appendage’ instead of referring to our deity’s Noodly Appendages as ‘his’ or ‘her’ Noodly Appendages.

All followers of the FSM believe that pirates are sacred and were actually the first Pastafarians, Natural disasters like climate change, earthquakes and hurricanes are also directly linked to the declining number of pirates on Earth. Many Pastafarians therefore wear full pirate uniforms as a means to help the environment and delay natural disasters. Other Pastafarians just like wearing colanders on their heads.

There are many reasons for joining FSM like the inclusion of all people regardless of their race, former religion or sexual-orientation. Did you know that every Friday is a religious holiday where Pastafarians dress up as pirates and drink alcohol? And it is estimated that roughly 10 million people either worship the FSM fully or consider themselves part of the religion even though they don’t really believe in the FSM, like many Christians do. Also feel free to search the FSM up on google for more visual aid or perhaps to fully embrace his noodly-ness.
