Health care is a fundamental human right, yet too many people still lack access to this essential service. In our community, the healthcare authority enrolls only 13,000 individuals, leaving many without support. Furthermore, residents are required to wait five years upon receiving their green card to access healthcare. This is discriminatory and exacerbates health inequalities. The World Health Organization emphasizes that access to healthcare services should be universal, irrespective of the individual's legal status (WHO, 2019). Also, research shows that lack of access to healthcare brings about negative impacts on the entire community, contributing to communicable diseases and reducing overall productivity (American Medical Association, 2017). We urge decision-makers to raise the enrollment cap from 13,000 to 20,000 individuals and eliminate the 5-year wait time for green card holders. Ensure healthcare is not a privilege, but a right.
