The Manchester Evening News reports that organisers say that the changes proposed will have a ‘devastating’ impact on their children and their lives. Dozens of parents, teaching assistants and children came together to join in protest against government cuts to schools. The rally, organised by Moss Side Parents, was held at Alexandra Park, in Whalley Range. According to the group, if the cuts are as deep as they fear then Manchester could lose up to £731 per pupil and more than 1,000 teaching jobs. Single mum and local teaching assistant Lou Nevin said, “I hear about teaching assistants from Cumbria to Collyhurst losing their jobs. I’m scared I could be next.” Akiem Mundel, a teaching assistant from Moss Side, said: “Being a teaching assistant for 7 years now, I have realised how vital support staff are. The education cuts are a big worry to me. Our children rely on the teaching assistants for both educational and emotional support.” The MP for Manchester Central, Lucy Powell, also attended the event and spoke at the rally. Mrs Powell told the Moss Side parents group that she ‘was passionate about education and supported their campaign to stop the education cuts’ .https://schoolsimprovement.net/teachers-parents-teaching-assistants-turn-protest-government-cuts-schools/ If you are asked for money by your child's school, remember their funding is being diverted to pay for grammar schools. #schoolcuts Can you please share your story in your area so we can report it locally and nationally Thanks Pmak
