Petition updateEvery Mother Deserves a 6–8 Week Maternal Health Assessment

Update: Nearly 200 signatures and the next step for postnatal

I wanted to share an update with everyone who has signed the petition calling for every mother in Northern Ireland to be offered a comprehensive 6–8 week postnatal check.

Thanks to your support, we are now nearly at 200 signatures — which is an incredible response and a really important demonstration of how strongly women and families feel about this issue.

There is also an important development to share.

The original correspondence raising this issue is being brought to the Health Committee on 8 October, where it will be discussed as part of the Committee’s work.

This is an important step towards getting greater recognition of the gap in postnatal care, but I want to keep building the evidence and support behind the campaign.

If you have already signed, please continue to share the petition with friends, family, and parent groups.

The aim is simple: every mother should have the opportunity to receive a proper 6–8 week postnatal check — not subject to where they live or which GP they are with.

The more signatures we gather, the clearer the message becomes that this is something women want to see addressed.

I’m also gathering further evidence through a short survey about women’s experiences of the 6–8 week postnatal check.

If you haven’t completed the survey yet, you can take part here: The Maternal Checkpoint Survey

The survey is particularly important because it allows me to understand women’s experiences in more detail and build evidence alongside the petition.

Thank you again to everyone who has signed, shared the petition, completed the survey or spoken to others about this issue.

We are nearly at 200 signatures; the issue is now being brought to the Health Committee, and I’ll continue to keep you updated as things progress.

If you can, please share the petition again and help us reach 200 signatures and beyond.

Thank you for your continued support,

Sinead McAllister
