Every Child Matters: Demand Better Disability Services for Children in Ireland
The Issue

We started Every Child Matters because we know firsthand what it feels like to fight desperately for your child while watching them struggle, regress, and go completely without the critical disability services and therapies they need.
Families are being trapped in a cruel, endless cycle of bureaucratic buck-passing. Parents are routinely bounced from Children’s Disability Network Teams (CDNT) to Primary Care, and from CAMHS (Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services) to CAMHS Intellectual Disability (CAMHS ID). Instead of receiving help, we face outright refusals from CAMHS simply because our children have an intellectual disability or are autistic. We are passed from pillar to post, falling through the gaping cracks of a disconnected system, only to be left with absolutely no success, no support, and nowhere left to turn.
Across Ireland, families are being left in the dark, forced to watch their children miss crucial developmental windows because of severe service deficits and unmanageable waiting lists.
Parents from Meath, Cavan, Sligo, and beyond are standing together for change. But this is a national crisis—we want to see every single county in Ireland represented. In September 2026, we are bringing our campaign, our physical petition sheets, and the collective voices of families directly to the heart of Government.
They cannot continue to look the other way. We are demanding immediate government action to:
- Stop the discriminatory refusals and ensure CAMHS and CAMHS ID provide immediate mental health support to autistic children and children with intellectual disabilities.
- End the bureaucratic buck-passing and create a seamless, connected pathway between CDNT, Primary Care, CAMHS, and CAMHS ID.
- Eliminate soul-destroying waiting lists for assessments and vital children's disability therapies.
- Ensure every child with a disability in Ireland receives the necessary support to thrive, not just survive.
