Running start is a program that gives students over 10th grade the opportunity to take college classes at a community college of their choosing.

Full time running start students in the Everett Public School district do not get a warning or a heads up when standardized state tests and deadlines for applications are due. The schools blindly expect students to miraculously know the date for every standardized test without actually being informed when they are being taken to begin with.

These standardized tests may also fall on days where major deadlines for papers and assignments are due, which forces the student to make a decision between the two. Retakes are an option, but they are often still on days that require students to go to class for important lectures and deadlines.

This petition is striving to stop the disconnection between these students and the high school they are associated with. There needs to be a more established relationship between the high school, the college and the student to help the student exceed in their classes and standardized tests.

Flexibility/Understanding for the students and their schedules/workload should be taken into account when assigning days for standardized testing.
