Help us fight the #1 wildfire in the nation!

The Issue

Help us fight the #1 wild fire in the nation. Support our petition to Stop Car Week!

Big Sur is a coastal Californian community that is battling an enormous wild fire. The Soberanes Fire is 10 days old and has already burned over 40,000 acres and sadly only 18% is contained. One fire fighter has died and 57 homes have been lost. Hundreds of families are displaced and thousands more homes remain at risk. Firefighters estimate the fire will not be contained until Aug 31st and that as much as 170,000 acres may burn before it is over. Over 5000 firefighters and support persons are here to help fight the fire, and we are immensely grateful for their support.
However, the community and the fire fighters face another serious challenge every hour of the day – dangerous tourist traffic on Highway 1.  The already challenging traffic is about to be further exacerbated by a series of private events celebrating classic cars collectively called Car Week – scheduled from August 15th to the 21st. These events typically bring upwards of 50,000 car fans from all over the world as well as hundreds of huge trucks loaded with classic cars.
This influx of cars and visitors will further tax Highway 1 and significantly reduce the hotel rooms that fire fighters and evacuees need while the fire is burning.
We are reaching out to ask you to add your name to our petition to move these events out of the Monterey Peninsula this year or to postpone them until after the fire is out.
Once we gather enough names we will deliver the petition to the private event organizers and the governing bodies.
Please help us keep our fire fighters and community safe during this crisis.
