Encourage Evan McMullin to pay his campaign debts
Evan McMullin ran for president in 2016 and made a lot of promises to voters, campaign staff, and the vendors who worked for his campaign. He didn't keep those promises and 5 years later he still has $669,330.95 of campaign debt.
Now he's moved to Utah and is running for US Senate in 2022. I know he's new to the state so maybe he doesn't know that Utahns believe in living within our means and paying off our debts as soon as possible. As of McMullin's latest campaign finance report, he has $702,000 cash on hand, which is more than enough to do the right thing and pay his debts from the last time he ran for office.
Sign this petition and send a message to Evan McMullin that he should pay off his 2016 campaign debts before Utahns will even consider him for any other office.
If McMullin wants to be a member of Congress and represent the great state of Utah, he will need to learn to live within a budget. When he ran for president in 2016, McMullin raised $1.6 million and spent $2.3 million. Do we really need someone like that helping to manage and hopefully reduce the $5 Trillion federal budget?
We understand that mistakes are made and sometimes campaigns spend more money than they raise. It has happened before. In fact, it happened to Hillary Clinton when she ran in 2008. But even Hillary Clinton understood the importance of paying off campaign debt before running for office again. She paid off her 2008 debt before running in 2016. In Utah, we should have a standard that our candidates be at least as ethical as Hillary Clinton. Do the right thing, Evan.
