Eurostar: we need a Sunday Ski Train

The Issue

The daytime Eurostar Ski Train is great.   Every Saturday it whisks skiers and snowboarders smoothly and sustainably from London directly to the Tarentaise region of the French Alps, minutes from many great ski resorts.

However, approximately 40% of ski holidays in that region are Sunday – Sunday. We – skiers, snowboarders, ski resorts, tour operators and chalet providers – need a direct Sunday – Sunday train service to this region too.

A Sunday - Sunday daytime Ski Train would spare thousands of skiers and snowboarders from airport queues, cramped flights, tedious transfers or long drives.

Ski trains make sense from a practical and environmental point of view. They are as fast as flying (door to door), create only a fraction of the carbon emissions of the equivalent journey by plane or car - and they enable skiers and snowboarders to have fun on the way and make the journey part of the holiday.

If we care about how people travel and the impact of their journeys, we need to create more train options to the Alps.  Last season, Eurostar put a toe in the water and ran a two ski trains on Sundays.  We are asking Eurostar to create a weekly direct Sunday service so that many more skiers can get on board.
