Petition to European Union on the impacts of animal based diets

The Issue

The negative impacts of animal agriculture and animal based diets on the environment and human health have long been known and scientifically proven.
There are countless documentaries, books and websites as well as scientific and unbiased political reports that show the impact animal agriculture has on our environment, climate, nature such as amazon deforestation and species extinction to name a few.

In addition we know that a diet high in animal products such as meat, dairy and eggs is the number one contributor to many of the modern worlds main killers such as heart disease, cancer, obesity, stroke and even suicidal depression. Most deaths in the western world could largely be prevented if people followed plant based diets. That doesn’t even take into account the large amount of people suffering from possibly treatable, curable or preventable illnesses which they do not need to have. There is also a monetary argument here, the treating and sometimes curing of all these illnesses has a massive financial impact. Money that could be spend and allocated on other better things, for example the research and treatment of illnesses that despite their numerous cases have been largely overlooked as perhaps they aren’t deadly. In addition we have to take into consideration the private money sick individuals spend in hope for a cure, again money that need not be spend and could be saved.

This affects all of us, young and old all over Europe and all over the world. The amount of people suffering from both global warming and it’s effects on our planet as well as the amount of preventable illnesses is staggering high and if nothing changes, will only become worse. It’s time to act and educate the public and health care professionals on the major negative impact of animal-based diets on the environment and on health, and the therefore positive impact of plant-based diets.

We call on the European Union to allocate sufficient funds to educate people on the negative effects of animal-based diets on the environment and on health in order for there to be a gradual shift towards plant-based diets.
