European Congress of Radiology (ECR): Waive registration fees for all scientific presenters.

The Issue

Every year, young investigators, residents or fellows from the fields of Radiology, Nuclear Medicine and Radiotherapy submit their scientific abstracts to the European Congress of Radiology (ECR) in order to present their results in front of an international audience.

As compared to the annual meeting of the Radiological Society of Northern America (RSNA), where registration fees are waived for presenters, that is not the case at ECR. Although the annual fee for members-in-training is only 10€ at ESR -- compared to the free membership for members-in-training at RSNA -- ECR charges the presenters 250€ for being able to present their work. At RSNA this does not apply, and that's how it should be at an international medical meeting. In order to encourage young investigators to submit their work, they should have the chance to present their work for free.

I did not create this petition to oppose or attack any institution or person, but merely to trigger a discussion within the international radiology community about registration policies at international meetings.

Therefore I ask the European Society of Radiology (ESR) to consider waiving the registration fees for presenters, because -- at the end of the day -- those are the ones that make the congress scientifically valuable and worth attending.

I pledge to you that I am the only person responsible for the idea and the content of this petition. No other person was involved. My home institution does not have anything to do with this petition at all.
