Eurobodalla Council don't currently accept electronic petitions. Let's change that!!!

Dear fellow dogs lovers I have received a written response from the Mayor of the Eurobodalla Shire Council (ESC) saying the Council do not currently accept electronic petitions because it does not say so in their "Code of Meeting Practice" . That code is CURRENTLY up for review from 21/6/17 for 42 days (end of July) . If you think that not accepting electronic petitions in this day and age needs to change, then PLEASE join me in emailing council@esc.nsw.gov.au and ask them to change their Code of Meeting Practice to accept electronic petitions. The Mayor's letter and email address to write to is below. ______________________________________________ "Thank you for your email dated 19 June 2017 regarding Council’s Code of Meeting Practice and pet friendly policies. I note that you sent Council an electronic petition on 28 January 2017 asking for changes to the current restrictions on dog friendly beaches. As advised on 15 February 2017, we do not currently accept electronic petitions as per the requirements of Council’s Code of Meeting Practice. With regards to the Electronic Transactions Act 2000 you refer to in your email, I would like to point out that there is nothing in this piece of legislation that states that we are legally required to accept electronic petitions. However, if Council decides to accept electronic petitions in the future than the Electronic Transactions Act 2000 would apply. The State Government currently have a parliamentary inquiry into accepting electronic petitions. This inquiry will present its findings to parliament in its last sitting before the end of June 2017. I will be following the outcome closely. Council’s Code of Meeting Practice was placed on public exhibition on 21 June 2017 for 42 days. I encourage you to make a submission regarding the changes you would like made around electronic petitions in the Code of Meeting Practice.
