I want to change the social work of the Cole R-5 school district
The Issue
In under a year our community has lost two young, bright, intelligent, and charismatic children to suicide. Myah and Dalton may they rest in peace. Myah would've been a freshman this year. She was in band and cheer and her dad worked for the school. As far as my knowledge of Myahs case, Myah had gone to the administration to tell them of a bullying incident but wasn't taken seriously and sent away. Later on Myah and this unnamed individual had an altercation where the student spit in her face so Myah punched her and they were then suspended. ( I WOULD LIKE TO MAKE IT CLEAR I'M NOT BLAMING THE UNNAMED INDIVIDUAL, I'M SAYING THE SCHOOL ADMINISTRATION SHOULD'VE LISTENED AND PAYED MORE ATTENTION). She took her own life because the administration let it blow up into something so much bigger then it was instead of bringing them both in asking what was going on and why and helped them solve it with the help of trusted, guiding adults. I'm not fully aware of Dalton's case. It may not have been bullying however, I do know that there are visible signs of depression and things like this that everyone should be informed and vigilant about and it's not happening. We need an open and safe place these kids can go and get help and talk or else the pattern will only continue. Multiple more individuals still attending the school as well as graduates or old students like myself struggle with depression, anxiety, and not being able to be themselves in fear of bullying and worse being ignored. I don't wanna watch my community and my family who were very close with both of these poor children to have to keep facing this terrible loss. Please help me get a meeting with the Eugene Cole R-5 school board and let's start to make a change.
