This week, in a strong display of support for my petition, Federal ALP Member for Lyons Brian Mitchell publicly condemned Etsy for selling child abuse themed merch. The Tasmanian MP told the House in his February 3 speech on the National Redress Scheme that Etsy must stop selling these products and shut down the sellers immediately, and if it doesn’t, authorities should act.
What a powerful statement against Etsy and its abhorrent failure to demonstrate corporate social responsibility. It reminded me that the incest and child abuse themed merch Etsy sells doesn’t represent harmless adult 'fantasy'. It reflects real crimes and real harm committed against real children.
Hetty Johnston, Founder and Executive Director of Bravehearts Foundation - Australia’s leading child protection organisation - also lent her support to the campaign. Hear what she had to say in my video update.
And thank YOU for all the comments you’ve made on the petition page. I’m so encouraged by your support, knowing I’m not alone and that 17k others are standing with me calling on Etsy to take action.
With thanks,
Anna
