Etsy is supposed to be all about handmade and vintage items. A Google result yields the following under Etsy's website: "Buy directly from someone who put their heart and soul into making something special."

AI art is created using algorithms to create a certain aesthetic by analyzing thousands of images. Do you think each artist of those original images was contacted for permission to use their art to be plugged into an AI art generator? So it can steal his or her ideas and use it to mass-produce cheap, low-effort stolen "art"? No one would agree to that!

AI-generated art is an insult to the "heart and soul" which real, human artists put into their work. Sign this petition to demand that Etsy ban the sale of AI-generated art on its site.

This sort of art may have its place somewhere in the world, but not on Etsy. According to American Scientist(1), 75% of the time, people could not tell the difference between AI-created and human created art. This means that Etsy customers can and will very easily assume a piece was made by a human and purchase the item without ever knowing.
