We the undersigned call on etsy to ban all fur including pelts, body parts and fur trinkets from its site. Etsy has no need to sell such ethically dubious items that involve animal cruelty and related illegal activity.

Fur harvesting involves cruelty and extreme violence (and often illegal activity) how ever it is harvested. The animals involved are always young (a fraction of their normal lifespan - to ensure optimum condition of pelt) and most are animals (including many wild species) that are kept in tiny rusty wire cages their entire lives, with no enrichment or necessary species specific provisions such as dust baths for chinchillas. The methods of killing are inherently cruel and unbelievably painful because their only interest is to preserve the whole pelt. This means that whether the animal is still alive at the skinning stage is a very hit or miss affair. In many countries workers are actually encouraged to skin the animals alive because the skin comes off easier and stays in tact. Many backyard fur dealers in particular have a tendency to cut corners when it comes to animal well being. They are hidden from public view so have more of a tendency to house animals in appalling conditions and use illegal methods (such as live skinning) in order to preserve whole pelts.
Etsy has many backyard producers where harvesting the fur and other products can not be regulated, Profit is the incentive so it will inevitably increase the tendency to use cruel and illegal methods.

The problem is the same for wildlife body parts and trinkets that are being sold on etsy. There is no way to guarantee that the product has not been illegally poached or that illegal methods such as snaring or leg hold traps have not been used. The animals could also have been wild caught and kept in abysmal and gravely inadequate conditions.

A case in point is the grisly pet rabbits heads that are being sold via etsy. These offensive and gruesome trinkets are the full face and head of dismembered pet rabbits and are clearly the result of animal cruelty and incomprehensible violence. For the face to remain in tact the animal will not have been pre stunned and they were very likely to have been skinned and dismembered alive. These abhorrent and distasteful trinkets that involved both cruelty and illegal activity should be removed as a statement that such disregard for animal well being and such vulgar products of violence will not be tolerated.

Many people own pet rabbits and to them these grisly and vulgar rabbit head trinkets are as offensive as a dog or cat owner seeing a dog or kittens face trinket from the same breed as their pet animal. It is just not appropriate or acceptable to have dismembered body parts or pelts of pet animals on display or for sale.

There are also many products which are blatantly cat and dog fur being sold via the Etsy stores.

Etsy has no way of telling how people are killing the animals and most are clearly using cruel or illegal killing methods and/or poaching of animals. Many people are claiming that items are vintage but then offer countless duplicate objects on demand so clearly many illegal and unethical items are being sold under the deception of being vintage items. These goods come from all over the world so the only way to stop illegal imports and illegal activity such as cruelty and violence to animals is to ban animal furs and body parts from the site. This should be considered an ethical statement that Etsy does not encourage violence to animals or encourage illegal activity such as wildlife crime and cruelty to animals.

We the undersigned encourage etsy to join many other sites and businesses that have banned fur (including fur trinkets, pelts and animal body parts) and wildlife items and pelts from their premises and stores.
As long as Etsy encourages violence and cruelty to animals and illegal activity involving animal cruelty by selling fur products then we have no choice but to boycott Etsy and join the global campaign against them.

Ban Grisly Fur Trinkets on Etsy

We the undersigned call on etsy to ban all fur including pelts, body parts and fur trinkets from its site. Etsy has no need to sell such ethically dubious items that involve animal cruelty and related illegal activity.

To allow animal parts and fur products to be sold on etsy means that you are participating in and actively encouraging cruelty, violence and illegal activity.

The only way to clean up your act and stop the illegal activity and animal cruelty and violence is to ban both fur and wildlife products on your site, with strict penalties for breaching that rule.

A case in point is the grisly pet rabbits heads that are being sold via etsy. Many thanks.
