The current pandemic of Covid-19 is spreading furiously and claimed the  lives of over 80,000 people globally. These numbers are increasing by the hour. The Ethiopian government needs to stop further spreading of Covid-19 through passenger flights, while sanitation and hand washing are good, the spread is increasing via travel. All confirmed cases in Ethiopia came about from those that traveled to the country or those in contact with them. We can  slow down the spread by closing down international passenger flights to avoid infected visitors entering to the country. 

The Ethiopian government has claimed to stop flights to 30 nations, these are mostly nations that do not want ET to travel to them. Our ways of living, standard of health care, and lack of funds to tackle the pandemic is highly inadequate as can be witnessed through the world. 

Where superpower countries are struggling to contain the spread despite, better health care system, better economy and so on, how dare we think $10 million assigned towards Covid-19 to 100 million people be acceptable.

In addition, the so called quarantine approach for new arrivals who can’t afford to stay at ET’s hotel Skylight is absolutely shocking. Placing people in groups of 6 in one room is going to increase the risk of spreading if an infected individual is in the room. Moreover, if a person is to self isolate, they must NOT share glasses, utensils, short/toilet, stay at 6ft or 2 meters distance  and so on. That however is not the reality on the ground as per the picture above.  

Follow the footsteps of Kenya, Angola, Cameroon, Djibouti, Egypt, Eritrea, Mali, Nigeria, Somalia, Sudan, Uganda who  have temporarily suspended all passenger international flights to minimise the spread of Covid-19
