Late Dr Emmanuel J Moodley founded Bethsaida Temple in 1975. This was THE FIRST Church Establishment in Phoenix, then only a sugar cane estate. Since then, this pantheon of an institution has become a landmark feature in the Ethekwini Region. 

Dr EJ Moodley through his position as a clergyman helped multiplied housands of people, particularly previously disadvantaged individuals from former black communities, by sharing financial and material resources to advance the cause of equality, diversity and liberation. 

His initiatives include funding the establishment of several church, youth and other building projects, financing the education of disenfranchised teenagers both domestically and abroad and uniting communities across, racial, religious and sectoral lines. Through his interventions scores of marriages were saved, families were restored and hundreds of youngsters were relieved from the crutches of substance abuse and addiction. The community of Clayfield in particular, an area he served for over 43 years is better today because of his presence, charity and leadership. 

Since this is where his work first began it is befitting that this road, Clayfield Drive, be named in his honour as a reminder of his invaluable contributions to make our community a better place.
