The Issue

Due to the heavy rainfall this year in Punjab, many street dogs in my area fell ill, and we were left helpless without any local facilities to assist them. There was nowhere to turn to get the necessary treatment or support for these innocent animals who were suffering. It breaks my heart to see so many street dogs in pain without access to professional veterinary care.

The street dogs in Malerkotla are not just animals living around us; they are an integral part of our community, deserving love, care, and medical attention just like any other being. Unfortunately, the lack of veterinary hospitals and clinics leaves them vulnerable and untreated in times when they need us the most. Moreover, establishing an NGO would ensure that these animals not only receive immediate medical care but also long-term support, fostering safer and healthier living conditions.

Urban areas in Punjab, including our town, are growing rapidly, but the infrastructure to care for stray animals is woefully lagging. According to a report by the Animal Welfare Board of India, there are millions of stray dogs and only a fraction receives adequate care due to such infrastructure gaps. By initiating the establishment of a veterinary hospital or clinic and an NGO dedicated to the welfare of street dogs, Malerkotla can become a beacon of hope and a model of compassion.

This initiative will require collaboration with local authorities, animal welfare organizations, and community volunteers to ensure its success. The government and local bodies should provide support and allocate resources toward this critical need. With the community's support, the establishment of these facilities can become a reality, offering relief and hope to countless street dogs in our town.

Please sign this petition to urge the Punjab government and relevant stakeholders to prioritize the creation of a veterinary hospital or clinic and an NGO dedicated to street dogs. Through your support, we can make a significant difference in the lives of these voiceless animals.
