Establish Safe Animal Surrender Sites in Waterloo, ON

The Issue

Every weekend, I hear about a heartbreaking scene in our community - pets being abandoned outside in various stages of health.  As an animal lover, it pains me to see these innocent creatures treated with such disregard. We need to do better as a community and provide safe places for pet surrendering.

In Waterloo, Regional Municipality of Waterloo, ON, Canada where we live and love our pets dearly, there are very limited designatations for people to safely surrender their pets. without judgement,  when they can no longer care for them. This lack of resources leads to countless animals being abandoned each week.

According to the Canadian Federation of Humane Societies (CFHS), over 82,000 cats and 35,000 dogs were surrendered by their owners in Canada in 2017 alone. These figures underscore the urgent need for safe pet surrender sites.

By establishing these sites within our region we can ensure that all animals are treated with respect and dignity they deserve. It will also significantly reduce instances of animal abandonment which often results in suffering or death for these defenseless creatures.

We call upon local authorities and relevant stakeholders to take immediate action on this issue. Let's make Waterloo a safer place not just for us humans but also for our furry friends who depend on us entirely.

Please sign this petition if you believe that every pet deserves a chance at life regardless of their circumstances. Your signature could be the difference between life and death for many animals in our community.
