I, like many of my peers, am greatly affected by the financial drain caused by the absence of public transportation between Martensville and Saskatoon, Saskatchewan. The costs of gas, parking, and vehicle maintenance strain our wallets. Moreover, it limits our opportunities - particularly for young people seeking employment.

Our concern is not unique but shared by many others in these cities, feeling the burden of costly commutes and the decline of economic mobility. The Canadian Urban Transit Association reported in 2019 that on average, every dollar invested in public transportation generates approximately three dollars in economic growth, demonstrating the substantial value of our request. Additionally, the environmental benefits of public transit cannot be overlooked. According to Environment Canada, transportation accounts for 25% of Canada’s greenhouse gas emissions, with passenger vehicles making the largest contribution. Public transportation would provide a more sustainable way to move between these cities.

But more than economics, more than sustainability, this is about us - the citizens of Martensville and Saskatoon, who strive for more connectivity and convenience. Therefore, we urge our local representatives to heed our call and work toward establishing a reliable and consistent public transportation system between our two cities.
