As a parent of an 8th grader, witnessing my child's transition from the start of junior high to almost its completion has been an incredible journey. Observing their academic growth and personal development has filled me with immense pride. It's on behalf of parents like me, and also on behalf of students who well deserve recognition, that I write this petition.

Attending junior high school is a significant phase in every student's life, marking their first steps into advanced educational settings. Completing this phase is an achievement worthy of celebration. The 8th-grade milestone marks the close of junior high and sets the stage for high school, an even more challenging phase of academic life.

According to the National Middle School Association, recognizing this milestone can have profound effects on a student's emotional and psychological well-being. Achievements, when celebrated, can bolster self-esteem and motivate students to strive harder. In 2019, the American Psychological Association also stated that celebrating milestones enhances students' overall growth and development, instilling in them a sense of accomplishment.

A formal celebration would serve two essential purposes. Firstly, it would commemorate the students' successful completion of junior high. Secondly, it could also inspire incoming students, demonstrating to them what they can aspire to.

The experience of completing junior high school should not just be another stepping stone in the journey of education. It ought to be remembered, celebrated, and cherished - a shared moment of joy, pride, and motivation for all students. Therefore, we ask that all 8th-grade students be allowed to experience this special milestone, to celebrate the end of their junior high journey before they embark on their high school adventure.
