Establish Global Sea Level Rise Awareness Day
The issue
Rising sea levels pose a significant threat to our world's coastal communities, ecosystems, and economies. Despite the growing urgency of this issue, awareness and understanding among the global population remain limited. We must act promptly to spread knowledge and generate collective action towards addressing the implications of sea level rise.
Why August 10th? well, did you know that The first continuous, highly accurate global record of sea level rise began on August 10, 1992,? also August 10th is the 222nd day of the year? and the angel number 222 is associated with collaboration , (working together to save our planet) , Love and Harmony (Love for our world and Harmony for our oceans !) , thats why i've chosen August 10th for my petition August10Action !
Global mean sea level has risen about 8–9 inches (21–24 centimeters) since 1880. In 2023 the global mean sea level was 101.4 millimeters (3.99 inches) above the 1993 levels, making it the HIGHEST annual average in the satellite record (1993-present).This would endanger millions of people living in low-lying coastal areas and small island nations, potentially resulting in mass displacement and economic losses amounting to trillions of dollars.
A dedicated Global Sea Level Rise Awareness Day would serve to educate people on the causes and effects of sea level rise, promote understanding of science-backed projections, and inspire both local and global efforts to mitigate its impact. Schools, communities, policy makers, and the media can use this platform as an opportunity to share information, host events, and develop strategies aimed at reducing carbon emissions and enhancing coastal resilience.
By fostering a deeper understanding of this critical issue, we can motivate individuals and institutions to support policies that prioritize sustainability and climate adaptation. Such initiatives might include reducing carbon footprints, investing in renewable energy sources, and implementing robust coastal defense systems.
