Establish Global AI Safety Rules Before Pursuing AGI or ASI — Protect Humanity’s Future
The Issue
Humanity stands at a critical turning point. Artificial Intelligence is advancing rapidly, and the possibility of Artificial General Intelligence (AGI) and Artificial Superintelligence (ASI) raises profound questions about our safety, freedom, and future.
We welcome the beneficial uses of AI in medicine, science, education, and other fields. However, we must ensure that the race to develop increasingly powerful AI does not move faster than our ability to control its risks.
We must establish international safety rules BEFORE pursuing potentially dangerous levels of artificial intelligence, not after a crisis occurs.
We call upon the United Nations, world leaders, governments, scientists, and AI developers to take urgent action:
1) Establish internationally agreed and enforceable AI safety standards.
2) Require independent testing and verification of advanced AI systems before deployment.
3) Ensure meaningful human oversight and effective mechanisms to restrict or stop dangerous systems.
4) Pursue AGI and ASI only when there is a compelling human need and their risks can be adequately controlled.
5) Pause or prohibit development or deployment when credible catastrophic risks cannot be adequately mitigated.
6) Prevent an uncontrolled AI arms race and strengthen international cooperation.
7) Protect human life, freedom, dignity, privacy, and the rights of future generations.
We do not call for an end to beneficial technological progress. We call for responsible progress guided by necessity, transparency, scientific evidence, and safety.
No nation or corporation should be forced by competition to take unacceptable risks with humanity’s future. Decisions with potentially global consequences must not be left solely to those seeking technological or commercial advantage.
Our message is simple: SAFETY FIRST. HUMANITY FIRST.
Let us establish the rules before crossing a threshold that may be difficult to reverse. Let us ensure that the intelligence we create remains under meaningful human control and serves humanity rather than endangering it.
Please sign and share this petition to call for urgent international action on advanced AI safety.
The future of humanity is a shared responsibility. Let us act before it is too late.
