Establish Garfield's Law for Mandatory Reporting of Feline Road Casualties
The Issue
Our beloved feline friend, Garfield, was tragically hit by a vehicle and left on the side of the road for 6 plus hours. It was only due to the compassion of two kind citizens, who discovered him and took him to a vet, that he received any care and dignity. To prevent more heartache and save cat lives, we must ensure that drivers shoulder their responsibility when accidents occur.
It's sobering to realize that in the UK, millions of cats are estimated to be killed on the roads annually. Yet there's no law that places a duty on drivers to stop and report such incidents, which could potentially save lives. It is a moral and ethical responsibility of every citizen to look after the welfare of all living beings, and our current traffic laws do not reflect this in regard to cats.
We are campaigning to establish Garfield's Law, a measure that would make reporting hit-and-run incidents involving cats mandatory, much like the existing requirements for dogs. By doing so, we can ensure that, at the very least, injured cats receive prompt medical care, rather than being left to suffer.
Imagine if every hit-and-run feline casualty was given a chance for treatment, and their families given a chance for closure. Until Garfield's Law is established, this cannot happen. Sign this petition and let's tell our legislators that we value all lives, and every living creature deserves empathy and care. Support Garfield's Law!
