The Issue

In a country admired for its commitment to democratic practices, it is vital that all eligible voters have the opportunity to participate in the electoral process easily and without conflict. Presently, Election Day for the presidential election does not fall on a federal holiday, which forces many American citizens to juggle their work schedules or forego their vote altogether due to timing constraints. This not only infringes on individual voting rights but also impacts the true representation of the citizen's voice. In the 2020 Presidential Election, despite having one of the highest turnouts in recent history, only 66.8% of the eligible voter population voted, according to the United States Election Project. Making Election Day a federal holiday could undeniably increase this percentage and promote a more inclusive democracy. We urge the US Congress to act in the best interest of the American public by making Election Day a federal holiday, highlighting its critical importance, and encouraging maximum voter participation. We deserve a democracy that includes everyone. Sign this crucial petition to make our voices heard.
