In a country enriched with diverse cultures and religions, it is of utmost importance that every community feels respected and acknowledged. There is a significant number of Muslims in our nation who currently face difficulties in getting days off during Eid. Unlike the Christmas holiday, which is nationally recognised, Muslims are compelled to use their annual leave, thus experiencing an unfair treatment. Establishing Eid as a national holiday will benefit not only Muslims but also contribute to the cultural diversity and inclusivity of our nation; it will bring about a sense of recognition and equality among all citizens, irrespective of their religions or beliefs. Official figures suggest that Muslims constitute a considerable proportion of our population. Recognising Eid will demonstrate the reality of our multicultural and multi-faith country.
