Establish Democracy Restoration Day as a National Holiday

Establish Democracy Restoration Day as a National Holiday
The Issue
The GOP is pushing to make Donald Trump’s birthday a national holiday. In response, we propose Democracy Restoration Day—a day to celebrate the end of Trump’s influence and reaffirm our commitment to democracy, justice, and the rule of law. This holiday will serve as a reminder that America must never again fall into the hands of an authoritarian demagogue.
Why This Matters: Donald J. Trump’s presidency was marked by corruption, election denialism, incitement of violence, and a direct assault on democratic institutions. The January 6th insurrection proved that his influence led to real threats against the nation. While some seek to glorify him, we believe in honoring the day America finally moves forward—free from his divisive and dangerous impact.
What This Holiday Will Commemorate:
The restoration of democratic norms after the Trump era.
The resilience of institutions that upheld the rule of law.
The importance of civic engagement, voter participation, and government accountability.
We Demand:
That Congress officially designate Democracy Restoration Day as a federal holiday.
That this day be used to educate future generations on the dangers of authoritarianism.
That insurrectionists and enemies of democracy never be honored with federal recognition.
Sign this petition to stand against authoritarianism and in support of a better future for America.

Democracy Restoration Day Act
A Bill to Establish Democracy Restoration Day as a National Holiday
SECTION 1. SHORT TITLE.
This Act may be cited as the "Democracy Restoration Day Act."
SECTION 2. FINDINGS.
Congress finds the following:
1. The United States is a constitutional democracy built on principles of free and fair elections,
peaceful transitions of power, and respect for the rule of law.
2. Throughout history, threats to democracy have emerged from individuals who have sought to
undermine these principles for personal gain, incite violence, and encourage insurrection.
3. The events of January 6, 2021, marked an unprecedented attack on the U.S. Capitol,
orchestrated and incited by Donald J. Trump and his allies in an attempt to overturn a legitimate
election.
4. Multiple courts, congressional investigations, and law enforcement agencies have concluded
that Trump and his co-conspirators engaged in efforts to subvert the will of the American people
through coercion, fraud, and incitement to violence.
5. As part of a commitment to ensuring such threats are never tolerated in the United States
again, it is necessary to commemorate the restoration of democracy following the removal of
authoritarian influence.

1. The holiday shall serve as a national reflection on the importance of preserving democracy
and resisting authoritarianism.
2. The day shall be marked by educational programs on democratic resilience, civic
engagement initiatives, and national remembrance of those who defended the Constitution
against insurrectionist threats.
3. The Department of Education shall be directed to develop and distribute materials on the
historical impact of demagogues and the importance of democratic safeguards.
4. The National Archives shall curate exhibits detailing the role of anti-democratic movements
and their consequences in U.S. history.
