In memory of Dane Paulsen – a 2-year-old child left unattended, who tragically drowned in a river next to his home. For ten days, a heart-wrenching search unfolded, pulling in concern and support worldwide. Ultimately, the search ended in despair when Dane was found approximately 3 miles downriver from his home.

As a deeply affected parent among many others, I am creating this petition to help prevent such devastating incidents from recurring. It's shocking to know, according to the World Health Organization (WHO), drowning is the second leading cause of unintentional death in children aged 1-4 years worldwide. Robust and immediate action is needed to curb this.

We urge the local government to create and enforce "Dane's Law." This law would mandate law enforcement to charge the care taker with negligent homicide in the event that it is proven the child is left unattended.
