The Issue

Living in Crofton, KY, I witness a heart-wrenching issue that affects both the animals and caring residents of our city: the overpopulation of stray cats and dogs. Every day, we find ourselves helpless against the overwhelming number of animals left to fend for themselves. Many of us, myself included, try to alleviate their suffering by feeding as many as possible. However, the increasing numbers from drop-offs and feral repopulation are surpassing our capacity to help. Stray animals suffer immensely, lacking basic necessities and enduring harsh living conditions. Despite our efforts, the absence of a dedicated animal control program in our city exacerbates the problem.

Currently, animal control is not prioritized in the city budget, leaving these innocent creatures without support and us, as a community, left feeling powerless. This neglect is disheartening and perpetuates a cycle of suffering that could be mitigated with the right infrastructure in place.

By establishing a funded animal control service in Crofton, KY, we can provide these animals with the care they desperately need, reduce the population of strays, and ultimately improve the quality of life for all residents in the community. Such a service would involve humane capture, spay and neuter programs, and finding homes for those adoptable. It's a sustainable and compassionate approach to managing the current crisis and preventing future issues.

The model has been successful in countless other cities facing similar challenges. A dedicated animal control initiative in Crofton would increase awareness, improve public health, and create a more humane environment for both animals and residents. We cannot turn a blind eye any longer; we must act to initiate change.

Please sign this petition urging our local government to prioritize the establishment of a comprehensive animal control service in Crofton, KY. Together, we can ensure a safer and more humane community for all of us.
