Establish an animal shelter in Port Lincoln

Establish an animal shelter in Port Lincoln
The issue
I live in Port Lincoln, South Australia, and I am desperate to get an animal shelter up and running. We had the RSPCA here for many years up until August 2024. Now, the closest animal shelter is in Whyalla, a daunting three-hour drive away, serving the entire Eyre Peninsula, which covers thousands of square kilometers. The absence of a local animal shelter has left a gap in the community that is becoming increasingly difficult to fill.
In the past, the RSPCA provided essential services for stray, abandoned, and surrendered animals, giving many of them a chance for a better life. Since its closure, perfectly adoptable dogs and cats are being put down due to the lack of resources and facilities. The need for a dedicated and accessible animal shelter in Port Lincoln has never been more urgent.
The community have been stepping up, trying to do what they can to provide temporary support and foster homes, but it simply isn't enough. We are calling on the city council, local businesses, and animal welfare organizations to come together to establish a permanent animal shelter in Port Lincoln.
The new shelter would not only provide a safe haven for homeless animals but also offer adoption services and community education programs on responsible pet ownership. This facility would directly benefit the animals, pet owners, and the residents of the entire Eyre Peninsula.
I have witnessed the heartache of animals in need, and with community support, we can make a significant, positive change. Help me make this vision a reality and give a second chance to countless animals who deserve it.
Please sign this petition to support the establishment of an animal shelter in Port Lincoln. Together, we can make a difference for our community and its four-legged members.
