We moved to Burton, BC for a more affordable, country lifestyle to raise our children. However, we've found that there's not a reliable means of transportation when it comes to employment commute or custody agreements. Children miss school if they are stuck on the other side of the ferry and workers lose wages due to missed work when the ferry is not running or has large wait times.

This situation is not unique to us but affects many families in Nakusp and surrounding areas. The current Shelter Bay > Galena Bay Ferry route is unreliable and often causes significant delays that impact daily life - from children's education to adults' livelihoods.

The solution? An alternate route for this ferry service. Or a back up vessel. This would provide a much-needed backup plan when the main route is unavailable or delayed, ensuring continuity in people’s daily routines and obligations. Another solution would be to maintain the approx. 80km of back road , west side road . That starts at shelter bay & can come out at arrow park or Needles ferry. They have done this between Trout Lake & Kaslo , and it has worked well. The road is already in place , I’m sure it would need some modifying , but if it had basic maintenance, example , plowing & grading. I’m sure there would be more to it , however it could be a great start to a back up route for when the ferry has large wait times or is out of service 

We urge our local government officials and transportation authorities in BC, Canada, to consider this proposal seriously. It's about more than just convenience; it's about ensuring that all residents have access to reliable transportation options that support their lifestyles without causing undue stress or financial hardship.

I do agree the ferry is wonderful as it employees many people! And I think that is wonderful , so I think a back up ferry would be the best thing in question.
