The Issue

My parents, who reside in Springfield, Illinois, are getting older and can no longer navigate the complexities of multiple connecting flights comfortably. Recently, my husband and I experienced firsthand the challenges they face. It took us over 24 hours to travel from Springfield, IL, to our home in Austin, TX, due to the lack of direct flights and the necessity to drive long distances to reach a larger airport. This situation was not only exhausting but also eye-opening.

Central Illinois is home to numerous families like mine, who struggle with the lack of convenient air travel options. The nearest major airports are located hours away, forcing residents to endure lengthy drives or take numerous connecting flights for domestic and international travel. This challenge becomes even more significant for those of us caring for elderly parents or elderly individuals themselves who need simpler and more accessible travel solutions.

Business travelers from this region also face unnecessary hardships. Central Illinois is a thriving economic hub with a plethora of industries, small businesses, and academic institutions. Business professionals regularly need to travel for meetings, conferences, and other professional commitments. The current travel logistics hinder efficiency, waste valuable time, and limit opportunities for economic growth.

Establishing an airline hub in Central Illinois is more than about easing travel discomfort; it's about enhancing connectivity, promoting economic development, and improving quality of life. An airport hub will reduce travel time for residents, facilitate growth for local businesses by attracting more conferences and tourism, and ultimately make Central Illinois a more attractive and accessible destination for both residents and visitors alike.

This isn't just a local issue; it's a matter of better connectivity in our increasingly globalized world. Flight travel should be accessible and efficient for everyone, regardless of their geographical location.

By signing this petition, you can urge city planners, economic development committees, and major airlines to seriously consider Central Illinois as a prime location for their next airline hub. Your support could transform air travel for thousands and positively impact the lives of many. Please sign and share this petition to help us bring an airline hub to Central Illinois.
