Establish Additional Commuter Rail Lines in South Jersey

The Issue

As an advocate for sustainable transportation solutions, I firmly believe that NJ Transit should establish more commuter rail lines in South Jersey, retracing the routes once operated by the Pennsylvania Reading Seashore Lines. At present, the only commuter rail line serving South Jersey is the Atlantic City Line - a service that falls far short of meeting the community's needs.

The lack of adequate public transit options has contributed to a significant increase in highway traffic congestion. It's a problem not just unique to us but prevalent across America. Most of South Jersey's transit routes feeding into Philadelphia require transfers between services, causing inconvenience and delays for commuters.

It is high time we address this issue head-on by expanding our commuter rail network. This would not only provide residents with more efficient travel options but also contribute to reducing carbon emissions and traffic congestion - two pressing issues facing our society today.

Here is what should be done. A tunnel should be built between either Suburban Station or Jefferson Station in Center City Philadelphia and run under the Delaware River to a new underground station across the street from the Adventure Aquarium similar to that of Jefferson Station in Philadelphia. Then, connections should be made to the railroad tracks that run into the city from the South Philadelphia suburbs of Philadelphia.

It may be a long shot, but it is definitely not impossible.

Let us urge NJ Transit and SEPTA to take action on this matter promptly. Sign this petition if you believe in better and more sustainable transportation solutions for South Jersey!
