Establish a Workers' Union for Subway Sandwich Restaurant Employees

Establish a Workers' Union for Subway Sandwich Restaurant Employees
The Issue
I have been a Subway Restaurant employee for nearly a year and deeply understand the struggle of my coworkers. Despite grossing more than $10 billion in annual profits, the company persistently imposes unnecessary hour cuts and ceaseless spending on ineffective promotions and needless equipment upgrades that don't profit the workers. They insist on maintaining exceedingly high pricing while undercutting the very individuals that make their success possible.
The current classist and perilous policies surrounding sick days are egregious. My own complaints directed to corporate offices about these issues have been met with silence, underscoring the need for a strong, united voice. Through the formation of a workers' union, we aim to challenge the status quo, to improve our conditions by demanding better pay, fewer hour cuts, and comprehensive benefits.
The stark reality is that the living wage in the U.S. is roughly $16.07 per hour for a single adult, according to the MIT Living Wage Calculator. Yet, at many Subway locations, wages hover around the federal minimum – a mere $7.25 per hour. My own location pays $13.50 an hour. Combine this with the hour cuts and it's impossible cover expenses. This stark contrast underlines the desperate need for substantial changes in pay, hours, and benefits for Subway employees.
We refuse to stay silent while our health and that of our customers is at risk due to hazardous policies regarding calling in sick, our livelihoods endangered by inconsistent hours and insufficient wages, and our dignity undermined by corporate decisions that marginalize us.
It's time to establish a workers' union for Subway Sandwich Restaurant employees and demand necessary improvements. Stand with us, sign the petition, and help us bring about the change for a fairer Subway. We only need 1/3 of Subway employees to sign before we can establish a valid union. Please sign your name and help to take a step that should have been taken years ago.
