Establish a wildlife rehabilitation program in Hudson County, NJ
The Issue
PETITION TO THE HUDSON COUNTY BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS AND COUNTY EXECUTIVE
Subject: Establishment of a Hudson County Wildlife Rehabilitation & Environmental Education Facility
TO: The Honorable Hudson County Executive and Members of the Board of County Commissioners
FROM: The Undersigned Residents, Taxpayers, and Registered Voters of Hudson County, New Jersey
DATE: August 2026
STATEMENT OF PURPOSE & GOAL
We, the undersigned residents of Hudson County, respectfully petition the Hudson County Executive and the Board of County Commissioners to allocate county resources, Open Space trust funds, or county-owned land to support the creation of a dedicated Hudson County Wildlife Rehabilitation Facility.
As the most densely populated county in New Jersey, our urban and suburban green spaces are home to a diverse population of local wildlife. Currently, Hudson County completely lacks a dedicated local resource to handle injured, orphaned, or displaced wild animals. This absence places an unfair operational and financial burden on our local municipal police departments, animal control officers across our 12 municipalities, and distant, overburdened regional rehabilitation centers in other counties.
By establishing a centralized county-level facility, Hudson County will:
- Provide a humane, structured system to safely manage wildlife crises.
- Relieve municipal emergency services from handling specialized wildlife calls.
- Offer vital environmental education and conservation outreach to urban residents.
We urge the county administration to prioritize this crucial environmental asset for all Hudson County communities.
By signing below, I certify that I am a resident, property owner, or registered voter in Hudson County, New Jersey, and support this initiative.
⚠️ IMPORTANT NOTE FOR HUDSON COUNTY RESIDENTS: When you sign, please make sure your zip code is visible, or leave a comment stating which town you live in (e.g., Weehawken, Jersey City, Bayonne). The County Commissioners need to see that we are local voters!
