Our county is currently the only one in the region without a volunteer program to support the dogs and cats in our animal shelter. This gap directly affects the animals’ well-being and lowers their chances of being adopted.

Shelters with volunteer programs report up to a 50% increase in adoption rates due to regular socialization, enrichment, and community involvement. Volunteers make a measurable, life-changing difference.

We, the undersigned, urge county leadership to immediately:

Create an official volunteer program at the county shelter.

Allow trained, supervised volunteers to help socialize, enrich, and exercise the animals.

Prioritize animal welfare by ensuring the community can take part in improving the lives of pets in county care.

Every surrounding county already offers this basic level of support. Our animals deserve the same chance to thrive and find loving homes.
