Establish a Union for CNAs within Intermountain Health for Improved Pay and Benefits

Establish a Union for CNAs within Intermountain Health for Improved Pay and Benefits
The Issue
As long-serving caregivers in Intermountain Health, we have consistently experienced being undervalued in terms of compensation. There have been numerous instances when newly hired individuals, with less experience than us, receive more pay. This practice feels unjust, particularly to us caregivers who remain committed to our organization during challenging times, only to receive paltry 10-cent market increases in return.
It’s time for us to unite and demand better pay and benefits. As Certified Nursing Assistants (CNAs) within Intermountain Health, we are critical to patient care, often being at their side when no one else is. Our role requires significant skills, physical and emotional resilience, and dedication to patient wellbeing—all of which justify fair compensation.
A Bureau of Labor Statistics report shows that CNAs in other institutions receive higher pay and better benefits, signifying a gross disparity within our institution (source: U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, 'Nursing Assistants and Orderlies', 2018). Therefore, we call on Intermountain Health, in recognition of our steadfast service, to form a CNA Union. This union's purpose will be to help balance the scales, ensuring a decent level of pay and benefits for all CNAs, irrespective of their tenure or experience level.
Recognizing the work of caregivers and providing equitable remuneration is not only fair but also critical in retaining experienced, dedicated staff which ultimately benefits patient care. Stand with us in pushing for a fair prospect for CNAs within Intermountain Health. Sign this petition today.
