Living in Bluffton, my husband and I have witnessed first hand the rapid growth and development of our beautiful town. While this growth has brought new opportunities and liveliness to our community, it has also introduced some challenges, particularly concerning the speeding on our roads. Notably, Mainland Lakes Rd. and Hartwell Rd. are becoming hazardous pathways due to the fast-moving vehicles zipping through our neighborhood. The signage clearly indicates a speed limit of 15 mph, but unfortunately, many drivers fail to adhere to this limit.

This issue is of personal concern to us, because our neighborhood, The Lakes at New Riverside, is home to many young children - children who walk, bike, and play along these streets. The risk for a tragic accident escalates every day the streets remain unprotected by physical traffic calming measures. Studies have shown that speed humps can dramatically reduce vehicle speed and, most importantly, have the power to save lives.

The population within the Lakes at New Riverside has increased substantially. This boom in population further stresses the urgency of installing speed humps to enforce safe driving practices. Traffic calming policies are not just theoretical benefits; they are practical solutions proven to safeguard communities. 

The Town of Bluffton has always prioritized the safety and well-being of its residents, and by implementing this simple yet effective solution, they can demonstrate their continued commitment to our community's safety. By installing speed humps on Mainland Lakes Rd. and Hartwell Rd., we ensure that our streets are safe for our children, pedestrians, and all residents.

Please join me in urging the local authorities to take immediate action.  In order to submit this request to the Town of Bluffton, we must have 75% of property owners sign this petition.
