The Issue

In Palo Alto and the surrounding area of Silicon Valley, mental health, particularly among teens, has become an increasingly pressing issue. The pressures of academic performance, social dynamics, and the transition into adulthood weigh heavily on young individuals, sometimes leading to severe mental health challenges. According to the Palo Alto Medical Foundation, teen mental health issues have seen a 45% increase over the past decade, highlighting an urgent need for community-focused solutions.

Creating a dedicated forum for teen mental health in Palo Alto would provide a safe space for young people to share their experiences and ideas for change. At the same time, adults are invited to share their experience, thoughts and ideas. The primary focus of this initial event is to encourage constructive discussion. Later, this forum could lead to mental wellness workshops, peer counseling sessions, and inviting mental health professionals for talks and one-on-one consultations. Such initiatives can help build a support network, reduce stigma around mental health issues, and empower our youth with valuable coping strategies and hope for positive change.

The involvement of administrators of local schools and government is crucial for the success of this forum. We need someone to host this event in a large gymnasium. This is expected to involve thousands of people and cannot take place in a smaller venue. We also need those in schools and government to help with marketing/promotion of this event, to make sure all are aware of this groundbreaking opportunity to have constructive discussion across generations and welcoming input from everyone.

We call on the local government, Palo Alto Unified School District and/or other school districts, and community leaders to allocate funding and resources to establish this essential Teen Mental Health Forum. By doing so, they would not only address an urgent need but also reaffirm their commitment to the wellbeing of young community members.

Sign this petition to urge the establishment of a Teen Mental Health Forum in Palo Alto and its surrounding areas. Together, we can make a difference in the lives of our youth.
