Establish a student led Bible Club at Johnstown Middle School
The Issue
Our children grow so quickly, and those precious days of carefree play and early learning are soon replaced by the impactful decisions of adolescence. In Johnstown, our community has been fortunate to provide our students in 2nd through 6th grade with a release-time Bible Program. This initiative allows our young ones to step outside their regular curriculum for one hour per week to explore Bible lessons, fostering their spiritual growth early on. However, our first class has graduated to 7th grade, leaving a compelling demand for continued spiritual development.
Parents and students have approached us with one pressing question: “What’s next?” This inquiry reflects not only their enthusiasm for faith-based learning but also a pivotal opportunity for these young minds to further explore their beliefs, develop leadership skills, and build character while navigating their formative years.
Currently, our curriculum ends at 6th grade, leaving a gap in the spiritual education of our middle school students. To address this, we propose the establishment of a student-led Bible Club for 7th and 8th graders at Johnstown Middle School. This club would empower students to take ownership of their faith journey, create a supportive community, and encourage peer-led discussions about faith and values.
But why a Bible Club? Firstly, it will cultivate a sense of belonging and support peer interaction focused on positive and constructive discussions. The club will be student-directed, with supervision from a staff member, allowing students to practice leadership, responsibility, and initiative — valuable skills both in school and beyond. Furthermore, students will have a safe space to ask questions, support each other, and strengthen their understanding of their faith and values.
We believe in the power of community and faith to transform lives and guide our children towards becoming thoughtful, compassionate leaders. By signing this petition, you are stating that you are the parent/ guardian or student in 7th or 8th grade at Johnstown Middle School during the 2026-27 school year who want to participate in a student led Bible Club.
