Establish a Seed Library at the North Suburban Library, Roscoe Location

The Issue

The Roscoe Gardening Club, a nonprofit 501 (c)(3) is deeply invested in promoting biodiversity and reducing our reliance on major seed companies, we believe we need to take action. Our community in Roscoe, IL needs a Seed Library at the North Suburban Library. This initiative is not just about seeds; it's about empowering individuals to grow their own healthy food and supplement their diet.

Seed libraries are vital resources that help preserve agricultural diversity by allowing people to check out heritage, heirloom and native seeds for free. They play an essential role in fostering local resilience by encouraging home gardening and promoting food security. According to the American Community Gardening Association, community gardens can yield up to $500 worth of produce per year (American Community Gardening Association).

By establishing a Seed Library here in Roscoe, we can provide residents with access to a variety of seeds that they might not otherwise be able to afford or find. This would also contribute towards decreasing our dependence on major seed companies which often prioritize profit over biodiversity.

Let's make this vision come true for our community - sign this petition today and support the establishment of a Seed Library at the North Suburban Library!
