Raccoon Grade School, a significant part of our community, tragically experiences frequent accidents during pickup hours. This situation is personal to me because the safety of our children, the future of our society, is in jeopardy. Therefore, we need to act now to ensure their safety.

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), a pedestrian hit by a car traveling at 30 miles per hour has a 60 percent chance of survival, while a pedestrian hit by a car moving at 20 mph has a 90 percent chance of survival (NHTSA, 2017). This clearly highlights the pressing need to introduce a school zone, which by definition, reduces the speed limit to 20 mph during school hours.

As parents, community members, and concerned citizens, we need to take immediate action to address this dire situation. As such, we call upon our local authorities to declare a school zone for Raccoon Grade School, ensuring better speed management during school hours, especially during pickup time.
