Establish a Safe Park with a Skate Arena and a Before & After-School Program for Our Children

Establish a Safe Park with a Skate Arena and a Before & After-School Program for Our Children
The Issue
Petition for the Revitalization and Support of Youth Spaces and Programs in Brechin, Ontario
We are proud to be part of the close-knit community of Brechin, where we all share a deep concern for the well-being, growth, and happiness of our children. Like children in any community, ours deserve safe, accessible places to play, learn, and connect with others.
Currently, Brechin lacks essential resources that many surrounding areas already enjoy—a vibrant public library, a safe and inclusive park (with a skate park), and before- and after-school care programs. These are not luxuries—they are foundational supports that promote childhood development, education, and community engagement.
Studies show that public parks and recreation spaces significantly boost children’s mental and physical health, supporting their emotional and social development (Cohen, D. A., et al., Journal of Urban Health, 2020). Similarly, access to before- and after-school care has been linked to better academic performance and improved social skills (Child Trends, 2019). Our children deserve the same opportunities.
We are calling on local authorities and decision-makers to:
1. Restore and reopen a community library in Brechin.
2. Develop a safe, inclusive park with a skate park for children and youth.
3. Establish before- and after-school care programs within our local schools.
This petition is not just a request—it is a collective voice from Brechin families, friends, and neighbours coming together for a better future for our children. Let’s create the kind of community our kids can thrive in. Please sign and share this petition to help make that vision a reality.
Thank you
