Establish a Safe Crosswalk for Pedestrians, Horses /Dog Walkers on a busy road Midlothian
The Issue
This petition stems from a deeply personal concern for the safety of my daughter and others around our community. I am a NHS Nurse and concerned parent of a dedicated horse enthusiast. More often than not, my daughter/myself have had hair-raising encounters with speeding cars while trying to cross, leading to some near misses. The drivers ignore the 40mph speed limit, tooting their horns and careening down the road at almost 70mph! with the road not having any traffic control to prevent speeding
This isn't just about us or horse riders alone, this issue affects everyone who frequently uses this road - pedestrians, dog walkers, and families enjoying an outing. Tragically, many beloved pets have lost their lives due to the excessive speed of vehicles that gives them no chance to stop in time. This well-trodden road, now bustling with more houses and increased traffic due to diversion from other roads, has metamorphosed into a perilous pathway.
According to the National Center for Biotechnology Information (NCBI), one study concluded that residential streets with traffic calming home zones lowered the odds of accidents by 53 percent. As a community, we can rally to ensure the necessary change is put in place to safeguard our loved ones and pets.
Our demand is straightforward: We ask local authorities to intervene, to respect our right to safety, and establish a secure pedestrian, horse, and dog walker crossway on this busy road. It is time to slow down the traffic, show respect for all road users, and make our road safe again. Please sign this petition to join our fight for a safer community for all its members.
