The issue

Rugby league is one of the most loved sports in Australia, yet Hobart still doesn’t have a local club or competition for people to play, volunteer, or get involved. For too long, southern Tasmania has missed out on the opportunities that come with having community rugby league at its heart.

A few years ago there were efforts to build rugby league in southern Tasmania, but it seems they didn’t gain enough community support at the time to keep going. Since then, nothing has progressed, and Hobart still has no local club or competition for people who love the game. This petition is about showing that the community is ready now, that there are players, families, volunteers, coaches, referees, and supporters who would get behind a local rugby league club and community league.

The aim is to start small, at a grassroots level, and create a sustainable club that welcomes kids, men, women, and people of all abilities. Long term, this could contribute positively to Tasmania’s economy and sporting landscape by making sport more diverse in the state. A thriving local rugby league community could also strengthen the case for hosting more NRL games and events in Hobart, showcasing Tasmania on a bigger stage.

We want to see if the community would be interested in getting involved, whether by playing, volunteering, or simply supporting the club. If you believe rugby league belongs in Hobart, please add your name and share this petition with your friends and family who also love the game. Together we can show the NRL that Tasmania is ready for rugby league.
