Establish a Reliable Bus Service Linking Emley to Neighbouring Villages

The Issue

As a resident of Emley, I recently experienced firsthand the challenges of navigating our local area without the ability to drive. For a short period, I was unable to drive and found it difficult getting myself  to work and my children to  activities like gym sessions, swim lessons and sports clubs. My daughter has expressed an interest in finding work when she is 16, however, unless it's in Wakefield or Huddersfield her choices are limited due to unreliable transportation.

This personal experience made me think about the broader implications for our community. Without reliable bus services linking Emley with neighbouring villages within HD8 such as Skelmanthorpe and Denby Dale, residents of all ages face difficulties accessing local services & amenities. This not only hampers employment & education opportunities but also isolates individuals & young families who rely on public transport.

Currently, residents need to catch a bus (1 an hour if it turns up) just to get Waterloo before they can link with other villages. This is not only inconvenient but also time-consuming. A bus service which links to neighbouring villages will allow residents to use facilities such as GP surgeries and pharmacist, visit libraries, attend a variety of groups such as parent and toddler, knit and natter, rhyme time and wellbeing groups. They will have access to the foodbank, youth clubs, play gyms, uniformed groups, sporting clubs and attend KAL where they have health recovery programmes.

In addition, with the growth of the football club and other events in the locality such as the Emley Show, the limited parking opportunities can be problematic for residents and traffic flow, a local bus service should alleviate some of the traffic issues which aid the environmental impact of our area.

Our village needs better connectivity for its growth and development. A reliable bus service will increase accessibility for all residents - from young people seeking education or employment opportunities outside Emley; elderly citizens needing access to healthcare facilities; or families wanting socialisation options.

Let's ensure that everyone in our community has equal access to opportunities by establishing a reliable bus service linking Emley with neighbouring villages within HD8. Please sign this petition today!
