Establish a Rapid Transit/Subway Network in the Twin Cities

The Issue

I am not a resident of the Twin Cities, but I am deeply concerned about its transportation system. The establishment of a rapid transit/subway network could significantly improve transportation in Minneapolis-St. Paul by serving areas that are currently unreachable by the Blue and Green light rail lines.

The Twin Cities metropolitan area is home to over 3 million people, making it the 16th largest metropolitan area in the United States (U.S Census Bureau). Despite this, it lacks an extensive subway system that other cities of similar size enjoy. A comprehensive subway network with at least 4 or 5 lines could potentially reduce traffic congestion and provide more efficient commuting options for residents.

The existing light rail lines have proven to be successful, with ridership on both Blue and Green lines exceeding expectations (Metropolitan Council). However, these two lines alone cannot adequately serve such a large population spread across diverse neighborhoods.

By establishing a rapid transit/subway network, we can ensure better connectivity within the city while reducing reliance on private vehicles. This would not only alleviate traffic congestion but also contribute towards environmental sustainability by reducing carbon emissions from cars.

Let's join hands to make this vision come true for our beloved Twin Cities - sign this petition today to urge local authorities to establish a rapid transit/subway network in Minneapolis-St.Paul!
