The Issue

Residents of Marion, PA, located in Franklin County, have to live with constant noise pollution in the form of trains passing along the Norfolk-Southern rail line. This line section in mind extends from the Alleman Road crossing to the Y-Split near the Slothour Farm off Harshman Rd. The noise disruption has significant impact on our lives, affecting sleep patterns, causing stress, and leading to potential health issues. According to the World Health Organization, prolonged exposure to noise levels above 55 decibels can lead to health risks, the rail noise can reach up to 85 decibels. Hence, we propose the creation of a Quiet Zone along this segment of the railroad to mitigate the noise. These zones, endorsed by the Federal Railroad Administration, have been successful in other communities across America. The railcrossings will need to be upgraded to ensure that proper signaling is in place. By signing this petition, you support the pressure on the Norfolk-Southern and Franklin County, PA officials to create a Quiet Zone along this rail line, improving the quality of life for local residents. Please, add your signature to this critical call for peace and quiet.
