Establish a Permitting System for Residential Parking on Glenwood Blvd

Establish a Permitting System for Residential Parking on Glenwood Blvd

The Issue

We call for changes to the current 2-hour parking restrictions on Glenwood Blvd. We propose the introduction of a permitting system for residents, an approach utilized successfully by Albany to manage parking for residents near the State office's in downtown Albany. This suggestion does not aim to eliminate the 2-hour parking restriction on Glenwood completely, but rather amends the regulation to provide an exception for residents.

Presently, the 2-hour restriction exists mainly to regulate available parking and prevent local hospital staff from monopolizing street parking for the duration of their 12-hour shifts. While this 2 hr parking regulation offers a way to reduce parking congestion during peak hospital hours, it simultaneously creates an inconvenience for residents of Glenwood Blvd who live here.  Additionally, complaints from ticketed residents complicates enforcement.

The proposed permitting system offers a solution that allows residents of Glenwood Blvd unrestricted parking access on their street. The website and pdf here (web: https://www.albanyny.gov/760/Parking-Permits, pdf: https://www.albanyny.gov/DocumentCenter/View/3210/Residential-Parking-Permit----General--Information-PDF ) list the details pertaining to Albany's Residential Parking Permit system, and we recommend that our Schenectady Leaders use this example as a framework for developing a Residential Parking Permit system for Glenwood Blvd.

We urge the local authorities to evaluate this proposal for the benefit of Glenwood Blvd residents.

By signing this petition, you support the establishment of a permitting system that will end the restrictions on resident parking whilst maintaining the necessary regulations on the street. Sign to champion the rights of Glenwood Blvd residents.
